Jamar, Alfred
(Jamar) Corner of Queen and Church Streets (Jamar) Save the Light

Belgian artist Fred Jamar has been a world traveler for most of his adult life, having lived in Brussels, Paris, London, Frankfurt and New York.  Choosing Kiawah Island as a favorite family vacation sport led to his acquaintance with Charleston, and upon retirement in 1997, Fred decided to settle in Charleston, “the most European of American cities.”  His recent work has been dominated by Charleston cityscapes - not seen, however, with the traditional eye.  The trees are assembled color masses, balloon-like in appearance, and the buildings are intensely vivid in form and color.
